Thank you to all of the collectors that purchased pieces from the Next Level Badass Collection. This piece was one of the first to pre-sell and is from the soul of the show Golden Thread Series. I am always filled with gratitude when someone acquires my work. This show was no exception. The thing that makes me so happy is how well received the collaborative pieces with Miles on the Chateau Marmont stationary were received. So many of you now own one of those. They are important work because Miles' hand is in every single one. I felt like he wanted me to help him finish something he started and the entire process was just fascinating. As an artist the greatest thing I can witness is the energy being passed on to another for them to sit with in their own space. I am blown away by your support. Harlem Rhythm. I love this pic from last night. You can see the lupus scars on my face. I look tired. I am. I'm exhausted to be honest. Being an artist is the blessing and the curse. I went straight up bat shit crazy this year. It was worth it. Miles said a black musician has a different sound than a white musician. A black musician has that Harlem Rhythm. We all have our own rhythm. I, like most of you ignore mine too often and push too hard... Hence lupus. Hence vertigo. A few weeks ago I was in my studio on the brink of a breakdown.. I flipped a page to one of his journals and it said.. Take your time. It's YOUR time. It's all about timing. This week I will pack up my sold house (it's just not the same without 56) and take some time. A lot of time. As much time as I need. I'm giving myself permission to breathe and wander and rest and live. I'll be home free for awhile. I don't have any solid plans or anywhere to put my bed or call my safe place for the first time in 23 years since I moved to the city. I've been petrified of this notion for the months leading up to this move and the people closest to me have heard about it all too many times but fuck it. I look at those scars on my face differently today. I'm proud of them and myself because I didn't give up even though I wanted to... I'll survive. Thank you @rob_hoffman for always capturing my truth. I learn about myself from your photographs. Much Love. ❤️
